Mr. Speaker, according to the Canadian Diabetes Association, 30% of people with diabetes suffer with depression and their rate of bipolar disorder is three times higher.
This week, we are joined on the Hill by members of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation for Kids for a Cure Day. Twenty-five kids living with type 1 diabetes are coming to Ottawa to explain how Type 1 Diabetes affects them and how research into the disease has changed lives. Type 1 Diabetes is very important to me. My closest friend’s son grew up with this disease. When I was a chaplain, I worked to raise money to fund research into the disease. Our government has improved the lives of many young Canadians by funding Type 1 Diabetes research, and we can do even more.
